Circular Walks

Lakeside Loop.    2.5miles

Starting at the Mad Cat public house, cross the road and walk down Warboys Rd to Anvil Cottage. Follow the forward wide lane, Lane End Farm on the left. The path winds beside a wide ditch and you arrive at Fen Road. Beware of traffic. Turn right and in 150yds cross the road, near a fence and finger post. Take care heading straight across the Manor Golf Course, down through a tunnel of trees. At the end of the tunnel turn left and walk around two fields and cross the third joining the Pathfinder Way walk. (turning left here takes you to Fenton-1mile & Warboys-2.5miles). Turn right and walk straight ahead to meet Fen Rd opposite The Lodge. Turn right and in 350yds you will find the footpath post, just before Stroud Park guiding you left around the golf course, with the Caravan Park on your right. Pass over a small bridge and then walk up Stroud Hill. On the left in the next field is the archaeological site of a moated homestead. Walk up hill, the golf course now on your right, with a no option right turn. At black Squirrel corner with a large oak tree, turn left. From here follow the route back past Drive Cottage to the Mad Cat pub.

Murray Marathon. 4.5miles

Starting at the Mad Cat public house, cross the road and walk down The Drive past the oldest cottage in the village. Follow the forward wide path, left, then right around the golf course and arrive at Fen Road. Turn left and in 50yds cross the road, near a fence and finger post. Taking care, head straight across the Manor Golf Course, down through a tunnel of trees. At the end of the tunnel turn left and walk along the side of two fields, cross the third joining the Pathfinder Way walk. (Turning left here takes you to Fenton-1mile & Warboys-2.5miles). Turn right, then immediately left around the field. The track bears right and you walk along Sidings Farm house, reaching Fen Rd. Turn left along Fen Rd for 80yds, turn right joining the straight path that was the old railway line. Walk through the golf course, part of the Heritage Route. At the end of the line the path and bridges becomes a wiggle through bushes. Look for a right turn in the trees that takes you away from the line around a lake, beside a fence and eventually through a pedestrian gate. Walk ahead, keeping dogs away from ponds(blue-green-algae). Follow clear signs right, then left to a metal gate. Walk down the track to join the Somersham Rd. Turn right on the grass path, walk up hill towards Pidley and the Mad Cat. Beware of uneven surfaces and speeding cars near the chicane, at the entrance to the village.

Alistair Amble.   1.75miles

Starting at the Mad Cat public house, turn left and walk 100yds along Oldhurst Rd. Then turn left into Croft farm, cross the yard to the left and find the footpath behind the green barn. Follow “Fred Way” down past the livery and an open field to the First Bridge, cross over and turn right. (Turning left takes you to Woodhurst 1.5miles). Follow the boundary path to the Oldhurst Rd. Looking right you should see over the road the bridge and finger post pointing up hill across the field (muddy in winter). The path is not always clear, aim for the tall fir tree on the horizon, across the middle of the field. Just to the left of the fir tree the path enters a tunnel of trees, follow it behind a row of houses and you will arrive at the village pond.(Turn left to visit the Parish Church). Turning right takes you through the village back to the Mad Cat pub. Look out for the mountaineer on the Village Hall bell, the plaque to congratulate Charlotte Edwards, the bricked up doorway that was a WW2 mortuary and a 16thcentury ridge and furrow field.
