The engravers today completed the inclusion of Edward ANNISS’ name on the Pidley Church Cross of Sacrifice, ready for the “Remembering Our Fallen” Exhibition on Saturday the 3rd of November to Sunday the 18th November 2018. He was Rifleman 23/991 Edward ANNISS of A Company, The 3rd Battalion, New Zealand Rifle Brigade.
He was wounded in France and died in Oxford Military Hospital on the 13th November 1916 of his wounds. He was buried in the churchyard 100 years ago but his name was excluded from the Cross of Sacrifice, because he was not born in the village. His parents lived in the village before they emigrated to New Zealand.
